Codie Atherton

Codie graduated from the University of Newcastle with a Bachelor of Psychology (Honours) in 2015. She completed her Masters in Clinical Psychology in 2017 and completed her Clinical Psychology Registrar Program in 2020. Codie believes that establishing and maintaining a positive therapeutic relationship is the key to success for a client’s treatment and is one of the most important aspects of her work – this is vital to work towards accomplishing the client’s goal and obtaining optimal treatment outcomes. She prides herself in providing a client-centred therapy approach which is caring, creative, authentic and compassionate using numerous modalities. Codie has experience working in a variety of settings including inpatient mental health, community mental health and non-government clinical organisations. She is trained in various treatment approaches; including, Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Motivational Interviewing and parenting and attachment utilising the Circle of Security Framework. Codie is an Associate Member of the Australian Psychology Society. She has completed several research projects with the University of Newcastle including the development of a measure of coparenting competence.
